Print of the Week

flowers

I picked this one because I felt like some color to brighten up the kitchen. It's another one from our trek. During the first part, at lower altitudes, many of the houses had beautiful flowers around them.

Photos of the Day

I'm continuing to work my way (slowly) through the photos from our trek. We passed many waterfalls and I took photos of lots of them. Here's one from the last batch I went through.

And a closeup shot as a cool toned black and white.

It's nice to be able to get these kinds of slow shutter speed shots (1/10 sec) handheld and still reasonably sharp. No time or energy for tripods when we're trekking.

Print of the Week

fresh snow on Zion rock

Continuing on the somewhat abstract theme, this one is from Zion National Park last February. It was a cloudy grey day with fresh snow and the only colour was the red rock so I decided I liked it black and white. This is one of my photos that did fairly well on 500px.

Snowy Sunrise

I was walking across the park on my way home from getting my hair cut. The sun was just coming over the houses and slanting across the snow, highlighting the shapes and textures with a warm light. I thought "too bad I don't have a camera" and continued walking. Then I realized I did have a camera - my phone. Considering I was shooting straight into the sun it didn't do too bad.

Print of the Week

Untitled

Another somewhat abstract nature image - sun glinting off water flowing over green moss with orange fall leaves. This was from our Kanchenjunga trek, on a rest day in Ghunsa. We went out for a walk after breakfast. The village is in a deep valley and the sun doesn't reach it till quite late in the morning. But a short distance away it's a bit more open and the sun could reach. I followed the edge of sun and shade, enjoying the play of light. It was nice to to have time to just wander and take photographs on such a beautiful crisp fall morning.

Snow Storm

The snow storm yesterday piled up snow on our office windows at Innovation Place so I took advantage of the opportunity to photograph snow and ice from indoors :-)
